Seeing Kabbalah Through Its Trees: New Perspectives on the Kabbalistic Tree
A conversation with Professor J. H. (Yossi) Chajes (University of Haifa) and Marc Michael Epstein on the visual cosmologies of Kabbalah.
Professor J. H. Yossi Chajes — Sir Isaac Wolfson Professor of Jewish Thought in the Department of Jewish History at the University of Haifa — in conversation with Marc Michael Epstein on his current work on the kabbalistic tree as visual exegesis: how diagrammatic forms developed across the early modern period to encode, transmit, and complicate Jewish mystical thought, and how Christian Hebraists and esotericists picked up these forms and remade them in turn.
The Annual Dr. Maurice Sitomer Lecture, sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program.
