Two endowed annual lecture series anchor the Program’s public-facing calendar: the Maurice Sitomer Lecture and the Fishman Family Endowed Lecture. Many other invitations are made by Program faculty and through co-sponsorship across the College.
Established in 1984 by Mrs. Arlene Sitomer in memory of her husband, a beloved Poughkeepsie civic leader. In the donor’s wish, the Sitomer Lecture supports speakers who “enlighten, inspire, and encourage understanding of Jewish culture.” Sitomer speakers have ranged across scholarship, the arts, journalism, and public life.
Established in 2000 in conjunction with the founding of the Program, by the generosity of Suzanne Rubenstein Fishman, Class of 1955, and Dr. Lawrence Fishman, of blessed memory. Each year a distinguished visiting scholar leads a faculty seminar (JWST 371, the Fishman Seminar) and delivers a public lecture.
