Poet Eve Grubin will read her poems and discuss her journey as a poet. In particular, she will talk about how her engagement with traditional Jewish practice in her daily life and her learning of classic Jewish texts play crucial roles in her poetry. She is especially interested in how the reticence of the biblical text and the paradoxical nature of the Talmud are rich with possibility for poetry; she will read her own poems, and some by others, that reflect these elements.
About the speaker
Eve Grubin’s most recent book of poems is Boat of Letters (Four Way Books, 2025). She is also the author of Morning Prayer (Sheep Meadow Press), The House of Our First Loving (Rack Press), and Grief Dialogue (Rack Press).
Eve holds a PhD on the Poetics of Reticence from Kingston University London, where she was a recipient of an Arts and Humanities Research Council fellowship, and previous degrees from Smith College (BA), Sarah Lawrence College (MFA), and the Bread Loaf School of English (MA). She is currently a lecturer at NYU London and a tutor at the Poetry School.
